Peninsula Hot Springs is Australia's original natural hot springs and day spa destination, set on the rolling coastal hills of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, just over an hour's drive from Melbourne.

Description

Drawing thermal mineral water from more than 600 metres beneath the earth, the geothermal source emerges naturally warm and rich in minerals including silica, calcium, magnesium and bicarbonates, renowned for their soothing and restorative properties.

The story began with brothers Charles and Richard Davidson, who first dreamed up the idea after experiencing a Japanese onsen in the late 1980s. After years of exploration, drilling and persistence, they struck thermal water on the Peninsula and opened the venue to the public in 2005. What began as a humble cluster of pools has since grown into a sprawling wellness sanctuary spanning more than 40 globally inspired bathing experiences, including hilltop pools with panoramic views of the surrounding farmland and sea, cave pools, reflexology walks, Turkish hammams, ice caves, saunas and a Roman-inspired bathing amphitheatre.

The Bath House precinct caters to social and family bathing, while the adults-only Spa Dreaming Centre offers a more tranquil, contemplative atmosphere. The newer Amphitheatre area hosts wellness ceremonies, sound healing and bathing rituals beneath the stars.

Peninsula Hot Springs has earned widespread recognition over the years, including multiple Australian Tourism Awards in the Tourist Attractions and Major Tourist Attractions categories, induction into the Victorian Tourism Hall of Fame, World Luxury Spa Awards, and recognition as a leading wellness destination by international travel and spa publications. It has also been celebrated for its sustainability initiatives, regenerative tourism practices and Indigenous cultural collaborations.

More than two decades on, Peninsula Hot Springs remains the benchmark for geothermal bathing in Australia, blending authentic thermal water, world-class design and a deep commitment to wellbeing, community and the natural landscape that surrounds it.
